Boosting vaccine acceptance requires a strategy that addresses human behavior and social contexts, to overcome hesitancy and ensure broad, effective coverage

The Challenge

The Purpose

This project, spearheaded by a collaborative effort between Save the Children, the Busara Center for Behavioral Economics, and Common Thread, focused on addressing the challenge of COVID-19 vaccine acceptance and uptake across Africa and Asia. To tackle this issue, the partnership leveraged behavioral insights—drawing from a range of disciplines including psychology, anthropology, economics, and sociology—to understand and influence vaccination behaviors.

The project culminated in the creation of "The Little Jab Book" series, which provides a compilation of strategies and recommendations to increase vaccine uptake. These strategies were tailored to specific countries—Kenya, Nepal, and the Philippines—based on in-depth interviews and surveys within those communities. The books were designed as practical guides, aiming to support governments, health workers, and communities in overcoming vaccine hesitancy and boosting vaccination rates, thereby contributing to the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
